As a fan of action-packed thrillers, I couldn’t put down “True Enlightenment” in the True McLaren series. The strong female protagonist, True, is flawed but relatable, making her an engaging character to follow in this adrenaline-fueled adventure. “Filled with intrigue and mystery, an action adventure that will hold your attention until the last page. A strong female character who has her flaws and is not the typical invincible superhero, but nevertheless easily wins the hearts of readers.”

T.Bell- Spain

“The author’s descriptions transport readers into the gritty underworld, where danger lurks everywhere. The pacing is relentless, keeping readers on edge throughout the narrative while allowing for moments of introspection that add emotional depth to the story.”

“I am always a little afraid that the sequel will bomb in comparison to the first book, but this one is just the opposite! The second book, in my opinion, is way better than the first! It’s like an action movie in book form, but it also makes you think. Trust me, if you’re into thrillers with a ton of heart and suspense, you’ve got to read this book.”

Matthew Pelkey- United States

“True McLaren is the strong, fun, fierce, and flirty protagonist we all need in a book(shoot! Maybe in real life too). This book, like book 1, offered action and adventure to keep me turning the pages. There’s hidden, romance, and twists and turns. I didn’t want it to end and I’m glad more books are coming.”

Excerpt from “True Enlightenment” – True McLaren Series Book Two

Heading out of my office and down the hallway, I reached the end, entering my favorite room on the left, just past Lisa’s office. The dim, widely spaced fluorescent lighting used in the hallway at night allowed me to find what I was looking for without incurring the pain of the full lighting array. Shoving the book into my laptop bag, heebie-jeebies ingrained in me from the age of five ran up my spine. Merde.

With stealth, I moved away from the doorway and crouched low against the wall behind a large mahogany table and chairs, staying out of any passerby’s eyeline. Waiting and watching, it wasn’t long before feet passed at a steady, stealthy pace, heading in the direction I’d just come from. Considering the size and style of the black leather boots, unlike anything Sue or Jessie wore to clean the office space, it wasn’t either of them coming back. Picturing the men in the office who might be in this late also confirmed that black field boots would not be a part of their Burberry wardrobes.

Great, now dinner’s going to get cold. I breathed in and out a few times to clear away the annoyance before dashing off a text to Dante.

One rat in office. Maybe more scurrying about. Bring rat poison when you have a chance. xoxo.

Looking around the room, I realized how limited my weaponry choices were. Double merde. Scanning, I counted anything of use, stopping at six before adding the two in my bag, two on my feet, and one in my hair, along with my advantage. The rat didn’t know I was aware he was sneaking about. Most likely, he thought, I’d already left. However, if he’d been waiting for me to come out, it was likely he knew I was in here somewhere and it was only a matter of time before he sought me out.

Our office was not huge by any stretch, just the fifth floor of a seven-floor building housing several companies. Setting my bag down and out of the way, the awareness of movement pricked my skin once again. Shrinking back a half second before a second set of enormous feet went by clad in a fresh pair of boots, I noted the gait was slower and more calculated. Well, that’s just great. What next? At least these guys had good taste. This one wore light assault boots in tan, resembling a pair Dante had. I closed my eyes for a moment, contemplating. Damn. I don’t need this. I just want to go home and have dinner like normal people do. These assholes are going to ruin my plans for a nice Friday night.

It had been a long week already, without the inconvenience of at least two men who were here for me, sneaking around in the dark of a satellite office that had nothing of value to steal. Maybe I was being paranoid, but given recent events, I didn’t think so. I glanced around the room again and realized I needed extra stealth with multiple giants in play. That meant a few of the weapons I’d counted were out of the mix, as was staying in this room much longer.

Sending another quick text to Dante, my fast and furious fingers let him know the pest problem had doubled. He knew better than to text back, even with my phone silenced, having also been a highly trained military operative courtesy of the Marines in his former life. We were both deadly in our own right, but his training had been a matter of duty and mine had been a matter of staying alive. Dante would know my mind had moved into the zone and he may not hear from me again. That would put him on alert. I pushed thoughts of him away, needing to cleanse my mental palette.

Focused and frosty, I had a general idea of where they were and some thoughts on where I might find additional, more effective weapons, which, given their choice of footwear, might be necessary. Assault boots screamed professional to me, and I should know based on the company I kept these days. Picturing Lisa’s new assistant, I let my thoughts travel to the inordinate number of things she would have based on her general appearance and grooming habits, which bordered on obsessive. Her desk was also within sight of this doorway.

Taking a calculated risk, I used my mobile’s camera to take a floor level picture of the hallway, noting the coast was clear for the moment. Shoving the phone down the front of my shirt, followed by my family medallion, I was glad I’d worn my six-inch red stilettos today. Crouching, I peeked out again and checked before crossing to kneel behind Chloe’s desk, praying she kept a stash here as well as at home. Opening the drawer brightened my evening, making me damn near giddy with relief. Time to go find my new playmates and show them how I prefer to interact with others hired to abscond with or kill me.
