CJ Wilder makes a living telling grisly and disturbing tales in her serial killer novels. CJ Wilder has a closely guarded secret. Her real name is Calliope Laurent, and she leaves in a tiny town in upstate New York with her two well-trained guard dogs.
When deliveries of roses from a non-existent boyfriend arrive in waves, Calli becomes frightened at the ominous messages the cards contain. Unsure what to do, she meets with the local police and files a report, only to be visited by Deputy Sheriff Brady Harrison the following day.
It soon becomes clear that a serial killer with an unhealthy obsession for CJ Wilder’s books is using the author’s words to recreate her death scenes. Even worse, he knows who Calliope is and his ‘works of art’ are his method of courting her to an ending where they will ‘be together forever’.
When it seems the only way to keep Calli safe is to move in under the pretense of being an out-of-town guest, Brady Harrison has no hesitation. When the pretense changes from guest to boyfriend after the sparks have been flying for days, Brady and Calli give in to make the pretense believable.
